FAQ
Does the Viewer upload my videos anywhere?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server.
Can I use the Viewer without internet?
Yes. Save the page as HTML and open that file directly in your browser. You will still need to select your TeslaCam folder from your computer or drive.
Which browsers are supported?
Recent versions of Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera) and other modern browsers are recommended. Safari generally works but may handle local file permissions differently. Always keep your browser up to date.
The app says "No clips match your filters." What should I check?
- Clear filters using the "Show full list" row or the Clear button in Location.
- Verify that the folder actually holds clips — any of RecentClips, SavedClips or SentryClips is enough.
- Ensure your clips use Tesla's default filenames (e.g.,
YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS-front.mp4).
My folder has an EncryptedClips folder — why can't I play those?
Newer Tesla software can encrypt dashcam clips before writing them to the USB drive, in a separate EncryptedClips folder. Only your Tesla account can unlock those, so no third-party viewer can open them. Use Tesla's own tool at dashcam.tesla.com to decrypt them (that also runs in your browser), then open the decrypted files here. Everything the Viewer can play, it plays — it just tells you when encrypted clips are sitting in the folder.
Why do some events show only one or two cameras?
Some events may not have recordings from all cameras due to how Tesla captured the footage at the time. The Viewer displays whatever is present.
The map doesn't show markers. Why?
Markers rely on event metadata (event.json) with approximate latitude/longitude. If those values are missing or invalid, the map won't show markers.
Playback stutters between files. Any tips?
- Play from local storage (internal SSD) instead of a slow USB stick or network share.
- Close other heavy tabs to free resources.
- If a clip is corrupted, the browser may struggle to decode it; try another browser.
Can I export or edit videos?
Yes — the Render panel exports any range of an event as a single MP4, with the cameras of your choice, an optional telemetry overlay and a timestamp. Rendering happens entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Where do speed, gear and the driven route come from?
Clips recorded on recent Tesla software (2025.44.25 and later, HW3+) embed frame-accurate telemetry in the video itself: speed, gear, Autopilot state, pedals, turn signals and GPS. The Viewer reads it locally and shows a live overlay plus your driven route on the map. Older clips and most parked Sentry recordings simply don't contain this data — the Viewer then shows the footage as usual.
What does a pass cost, and is it a subscription?
No subscription — passes are one-off purchases that simply expire: €5 for 48 hours, €12 for a week or €39 for a year. They remove the teslacam.online watermark from renders and unlock source resolution. Buying another pass extends the one you already have. Everything else — browsing, playback, telemetry, the map track, CSV export and rendering up to 1080p — stays free and needs no account.
Can I share this app with friends or colleagues?
Yes. It's a single HTML file, easy to share. Remind them that the viewer is free if they find it useful.

Troubleshooting Checklist
- Reload the page and reselect the TeslaCam folder.
- Confirm the folder holds at least one clips folder, or the clips themselves.
- Try a different browser if playback or file permissions misbehave.
- Move the clips to a faster disk if you notice I/O bottlenecks.
